Bungie is not certain why this happens you have to have the 49 original ones. When they added the additional achievements people started reporting that they would get the katana somewhere around 750 Gamerscore. Although it was cool that they got it it would as you have painfully found out "disappear" Get the original 49 and it will stay right where it is suppose to on your back. Good Luck
