Can you see someone's gamer profile on Xbox Live without sending a friend request?

I was watching play backs in my Black Ops theater and I saw someone that I would like to see their gamercard and possibly their Black Ops combat record but I don't want to send them a friend request. Is there a way to look up his or her profile with their gamertag in a search? I've seen other questions asked and there is a url code given but it didn't work for me.
