Does the hard drive transfer kit erase Gamer Profiles?

Does the Xbox 360 HDD transfer kit erase gamer profiles? i need to know because i've got 17K Gamer Score and i don't want that gone.Does the hard drive transfer kit erase Gamer Profiles?It gets transfered with the rest of your saved info. Or if you have a connection to the internet just hook the Xbox up to it and make a free silver account with your profile then it will also be saved online and you will never have to worry about it being erased.
