Will xbox live ever let you use the gamer points you earn?

I think that it's pretty stupid to have that there and not be able to use it. I mean, how long ago did they create the 360 and they STILL haven't fixed it.Will xbox live ever let you use the gamer points you earn?they never intended you to use them they are just a number to brag about being better then your friends no value to them.
