What is the point of gamer points on the Xbox 360?

I have about 5000 of them and I don't have a clue what point they serve so could someone tell me please. Thanks. What is the point of gamer points on the Xbox 360?Bragging rights. There is no other point to them other then saying "Hey, I got more achievements than you"What is the point of gamer points on the Xbox 360?Bragging rights and competition is what they're all about, plain and simple.

The gamerscore points are put in games by developers and are awarded for completing certain in-game tasks for example kill X amount of enemies or collect X amount of items.

Retail 360 titles (full games) have 1000 gamerscore points up for grabs, this is sometimes extended to 1250 points if Downloadable content is released. Arcade 360 titles downloaded from the Marketplace have 200 points up for grabs.

Most games will give an easy couple of hundred points just for playing the game but to bag the full 1000 points is quite an achievement. The

original idea was that if someone had achieved a thousand points in a game, they've done everything there is to do and FULLY

completed the game.

The achievement system is there so that anyone who plays with you on Xbox Live will be able to see what games you've played and what you've done whilst playing the game. The PS3 replicated this system with it's Trophy Room.

I personally have a 60K gamerscore and I'm very proud of it, I can't actually imagine playing a game without achievements.
