Ok, so when I take this card home what do I do? Does it give me a code or something? Can't someone just write it down or steal it? Are they usually reliable or do they sometimes fail?

How do xbox 360 gamer points work exactly? I'm planning on buying 1600 points for 20 bucks.?When you buy them, you can buy them online or in store, if you buy them online, they would email you the code, or they will send you the box which inclues a card with the code written on it, if you buy it in store you will get the box which has the card etc. All of the ones which I have bought have been reliable, and I have bought over 6,000 points soo. And the codes allow you buy things on Xbox Live, like arcade games, rent films, map packs, theme's, gamer pictures, etc.

The points are to buy things online e.g gamer pics, u can change your name, download map packs etc... And yes you type the code in and that's it, cannot be used again.
