I've decided that i want to upgrade from my old t.v. and get a nice t.v. i want to know about performance with video games, and would i need to buy anything specific for my systems, if i upgrade to a HDtv like one of these. I have heared different things but as a gamer which is better? if size matters im looking at 42" to 50"As a gamer what is better LCD or plasma?I'm afraid I must disagree with the previous answer.
Remember when LCD computer monitors first arrived? Gamers hated them because of motion blur. Games were almost un-playable.
They got the refresh rate up to acceptable levels to reduce the problem, but it's still there.
LCD's have 2 inherent issues:
- Motion blur. The 120 hz refresh is an attempt to reduce the problem, but it's still there on fast moving scenes.
- Black levels. LCD's cannot produce real black but 'grey'. The newer televisions use pin-point back lights with light emitting diodes that switch off to create black.
Plasma's have neither of these problems so it's a better choice for gaming.
The down side of plasma:
- They are heavy
- They use a lot of electricity wasted in generating heat
- They are glass and HIGHLY reflective so any lights forward of the screen can reflect. Side or rear windows are a nightmare. As a gamer what is better LCD or plasma?
motion wise, plasma is smarter, but since it is for gaming, screen burning could be an issue, im not sure if new plasma's have gotten better at protecting from screen burn, but i know that used to be a big problem with them, especially for gamers. Plasma is also a glass screen so it reflects light easier(although you can buy some that have a special coating that makes it reflect light less), and they have a shorter life span, after around 5 years you have to get the tube of gas re-pressurized, so the black screen goes away and you can use it again. also to get the best pic out of it, its best to be in a dark room or setting.
LCD has come along way, so if you get an LCD you need to get one with a high dynamic ratio (at least 40,000 or higher), make sure it has 120 hz technology, its a 1080 screen, and it has a fast response time (4ms or faster) that way the screen refreshes faster making motion smoother. This might sound like alot of stuff, but most decent brands of LCD's comes with most of these aspects already. LCD's are also lighter, and have a plastic screen so light doesn't reflect off of it(at least not noticeably), and they last a good 15 years if you get a better brand(i suggest samsung, high quality and cheaper than other brands) and also LCD's dont have to be played in a dark room to get the best picture. Since its brighter than plasma it can be played in a lit up room and still look amazing. As a gamer what is better LCD or plasma?Plasma in my opinion. The color is a lot more crisp. Like the poster above said though, the plasma TV's do generate a lot more heat compared to a LCD and you would be able to tell between the two. I live in a 4 bedroom apartment at college and my roommate has a 42" plasma and it generates massive amounts of heat resulting in his room being 3-4 degrees higher than the rest of the apartment when its on for extended periods of gaming and other uses. The heat from my LCD on the other hand is barely noticeable and I have it on almost constantly between running my computer, gaming systems and just watching TV. The heat probably wouldn't be much of an issue in a larger environment though. Weight I wouldn't think would be an issue however, because once a TV of that size is placed, it usually isn't moved often. Hope my personal experience helps ya!As a gamer what is better LCD or plasma?
For your use as a game monitor, the LCD is the best over all type. It is brighter in a well lighted room than a plasma tv. You'll have to select in size of 40 - 52" for LCD's there are no 42" and 50" model available. Top choice would be Sumsang, Panasonic, Toshiba and Sony (overpriced). They have better quality and reliability than the others in the market. If you don't watch fast action sports you can get the 60HZ model for less than the 120 or 240HZ. Also recommend getting the 1080P this way you can always and a Blue Ray Disc player down the road.As a gamer what is better LCD or plasma?LCD is better for video games because images will "burn" in the screen on a plasma. As a gamer what is better LCD or plasma?
In my opinion, Plasmas are the best, especially when it comes to gaming.
